The German Cultural Foundation was formed in 1994 to provide an organization to support the German community and its cultural events in Colorado.
For more than 20 years, the Foundation has supported the annual Denver Christkindlmarket hosted and produced by the German American Chamber of Commerce – Colorado Chapter and has watched it grow from a 3-day event in the early years to this year’s 30 plus-day event at its location at Civic Center Park in downtown Denver.
In 2016 the Foundation was instrumental in arranging for the Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor, Maestro Mark Mast, to enter into a long-term relationship with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. The relationship will lead to exchanges of ideas for reaching out to younger audiences, musician and conductor exchanges and the exposure of the orchestra’s members to American and German culture.
Over the years, the Foundation has worked with Colorado high schools to encourage and support German language programs. In 2024 the Foundation plans to expand its support of German language programs through grants directly to schools teaching German, teachers of German and students who are learning German.
On November 28, 2023, the GCF hosted approximately 450 area high school students at the Denver Christkindl Market. The GCF paid for the busses required to bring the students, teachers and accompanying parents to the Market. The GACC gave each student a $10 voucher for lunch.
